Body Found in Frozen Palos Park Pond is Missing Chicago Man

Cunningham, of the Lake View neighborhood, was last seen “in a fit of work-related frustration” about 10:45 a.m. Oct. 30, 2014 in a forest preserve area

The man found in a southwest suburban pond Sunday has been identified as a Chicago man who has been missing since last fall.

John Michael Cunningham, 27, was found in a frozen pond near the 12700 block of Misty Harbour Lane in Palos Park about 3 p.m. Sunday, according to Cook County sheriff’s spokeswoman Sophia Ansari and the medical examiner’s office.

Cunningham, of the Lake View neighborhood, was last seen “in a fit of work-related frustration” about 10:45 a.m. Oct. 30, 2014 in a forest preserve area near 104th Avenue and McCarthy Road in Palos Park, according to Palos Park police.

Cunningham was visiting his parents’ home when he went missing and was dealing with some personal issues, police said at the time.

The cause of death was still pending Wednesday evening, the medical examiner’s office said, who identified his home address as the 200 block of Timber Edge Road in Palos Heights.

Cunningham’s family has tentatively scheduled a memorial service for him on during the early evening hours of Jan. 31 at Our Lady of The Woods Parish in Orland Park, according to a Facebook post. A “celebration of his life” will be held at Palos Country Club.
