Young Man's Body Found in Wilmette Bushes

Colin Nutter's death ruled a homicide but cause not determined

UPDATE: Three Charged With Killing Man Found in Bushes

Highland Park police on Tuesday cordoned off the north suburban home of a man whose body was found in bushes the previous night by a teen walking her dog.

Samantha Dela Cruz, 16, was walking along Briar Road near the Edens Expressway when she came upon the body, later identified as 20-year-old Colin Nutter. She said her dog kept wanting to sniff an area, and when she walked over to the bushes she saw a torso and legs in an awkward position.

"As I finally caught up to him I saw it over there," she recalled. " I could only see part of a torso and its leg, and I literally jumped back and just dragged [the dog] home."

Nutter's body showed signs of trauma, police said. Though his death was classified as a homicide, a cause of death had not yet been released as of Tuesday afternoon.

His neighbors in the quiet Highland Park neighborhood said Nutter and his family have always been very well-liked in the community.

"I did know him as a  young boy, and he was a nice boy," said neighbor Sarah Weissman. "His mother is lovely."

Police continued investigating the death and asked anyone with information about the incident to call the tip line of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force at 847-853-7580 or the Wilmette Police Department at 847-256-1200.
