City Sees Virtually No Crime for 48 Hours

Man shot early Friday morning during theft of his snowblower

Forget hiring officers and spending money on crime prediction technology.  Just bring in a blizzard!

Police Supt. Jody Weis said Friday morning that things have been relatively quiet, crime-wise, since Mother Nature showed everyone who's boss.

"We've gone 48 hours without having a shooting.  Unfortunately last night an individual was shot as three individuals tried to steal his snowblower.  But otherwise we've had almost no crime within the city for almost 48 hours," he said.

The shooting victim, 47-year-old Andre Barker, of the Englewood neighborhood, was shot in the thigh at about 1:40 a.m. when he was approached and asked if he wanted to sell the snowblower.  The theives robbed Barker of the snowblower and $27 when he refused.

Barker was taken to Stroger Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said the thieves got away in a white sedan.
