Blago Edges Bernie Madoff for Worst-Behaved Newsmaker

Blago takes the grand prize

Governor Rod Blagojevich’s reputation is so bad, Nightline’s viewers awarded him the “grand Bernie award.”

The news program created an award for the worst behaved newsmaker of 2009 and named the honor after Bernie Madoff, the ponzi schemer who stole billions from his clients.

It looked like a safe bet that Bernie would win the Bernie. But not with ‘ol Blago around.

Voters logged onto the ABC website and voted for the coiffed one. Glenn Selig, Blago’s spokesman, said he was surprised by the outcome "based on the response we get on his Web site, the crowds he draws at public engagements and the demand for his autograph."

The former governor of Illinois won the award for trying to sell Barack Obama’s vacated senate seat, of course. He may be hoping potential jurors for his summer 2010 trial don’t watch Nightline.
