Blackhawks Trim Fortin, Svedberg From Training Camp Roster

The Chicago Blackhawks made a pair of roster moves this weekend as they continue to trim down their preseason roster.

The Blackhawks announced that they had sent Alexandre Fortin to the Rockford IceHogs after their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fortin, an undrafted free agent, scored 22 goals and dished out 30 assists last season for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the QMJHL, and was only considered a dark horse candidate to make the Blackhawks’ roster this season.

According to reports, the Blackhawks also made another move as they placed defenseman Viktor Svedberg on waivers. If he clears, Svedberg would likely be assigned to the IceHogs’ roster.

The Swedish-born defenseman has appeared in 27 career NHL games, scoring a pair of goals and notching two assists for the Blackhawks during the 2015-16 season. He had two goals and nine assists in 51 games with the IceHogs last season.

With the moves, the Blackhawks’ roster now stands at 36, with 20 forwards, 12 defensemen, and four goaltenders left in camp.
