Election officials say more than 142,300 Chicago voters cast early ballots for Tuesday's runoff election.
It's hard to compare the number to years past since it's the city's first mayoral runoff election, but the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners says there's been a surge in turnout.
Nearly 90,000 Chicago voters cast early ballots ahead of February's contest. Nearly 73,300 voters did so ahead of the February 2011 municipal election.
The last day of early voting was Saturday when Chicago voters cast 18,737 votes alone. Voters can still cast in-person absentee ballots on Sunday and Monday.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel didn't capture the majority vote needed in the February election, forcing a runoff with Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.
