A semi-trailer smashed into an unoccupied charter bus and was then “engulfed in flames” Monday night on the expressway in the western suburbs.
The accident occurred about 6:51 on I-294 near the village of Berkeley. The driver of the semi-trailer was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with minor injuries, according to Illinois State Police.
Several lanes near mile marker 32.50 were blocked by emergency personnel but traffic was getting by on the left shoulder.
No other details were immediately available.
