Raise your glasses Chicago, it appears the city is home to not one but two of the best beer bars in the U.S., according to a new report.
Thrillist tapped its list of the 31 best beer bars in America and two establishments on either side of Chicago were named to the coveted list.
On the North Side, Hopleaf, in the Andersonville neighborhood, was dubbed “one of the Winy City’s OG bars for serious beer,” boasting an “encyclopedic beer selection” and “incomparable” frites.
On the South Side, “neighborhood institution” Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar also made the list as a “classic Chicago ‘slashie,’” or bar and liquor store.
Other Midwest establishments for beer-lovers include 7 Monks Taproom in Traverse City, Michigan; Burnhearts in Milwaukee; El Bait Shop in Des Moines, Iowa; The Happy Gnome in St. Paul, Minnesota; The Mitten Bar in Ludington, Michigan; and The Tremont Taphouse in Cleveland.
The list did not include chains or breweries, according to Thrillist.
