Bears Talk About Adjusting to Trestman's Changes

Have you ever had a new boss come into your job? It's a time of nervousness and change, because you're never quite sure what the new boss will want to change. The Bears players are in that predicament now as they adjust to a new head coach and all of the change that comes with him. They talked about it to NBC Chicago.

Matt Forte sees the change as being a good thing.

"People are resistant to change a lot but change is good sometimes," Forte said. "I think this is one of those times that change is a positive thing. The weight room is different. Stuff is being added on to the facility. I think we're headed in the right direction."

Tim Jennings had a career year last season, so the change may not make as much sense to him. But he's getting more comfortable with his coaches.

"Things have changed, and coach is doing things he's used to doing," Jennings said. "We've got to abide by the rules, change the way we do things a little bit. Change the practice schedule a bit. It just takes some getting used to, but it seems like everything is falling into place. Everything we're trying to do is for a reason."

Long snapper Patrick Mannelly has been with the Bears since 1998 and is on his fourth head coach. Though most of his time was with Lovie Smith, he still understands the process.

"When you've been with a coach for nine years, you know what to expect every day when you walk in. With this coach, he's got a new vision of how things are going to go," Mannelly said. That's not a bad thing. That's just the way it is, and it's like that in any business when they change your boss. You don't know what to expect, but there's nothing glaring where we're saying, 'Oh God, this is terrible.' It's just a different way of doing things."

Major Wright has a new head coach and a new defensive coordinator. The Bears players were fond of Rod Marinelli, but Wright said he's liking the things they're doing under Mel Tucker.

"The stuff that he's instilling, and we're just adding on to our defense. He's a great coach. We're doing some great things, emphasizing takeaways and scoop and score. The defense, that's what it's all about."
