The Chicago Bears will have to get even more creative in reconfiguring their coaching staff next season, as wide receiver coach Mike Groh has left the team to join the Los Angeles Rams.
Groh, who has been with the Bears since the 2013 season, will be the Rams’ wide receivers coach, but he will also get additional responsibilities, serving as the team’s passing game coordinator.
When Bears quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains was promoted to offensive coordinator earlier this offseason, there had been talk that Groh would be promoted to the position. When the team elected to hire Dave Ragone to the position, it opened up the possibility of Groh departing the organization, and on Monday he did just that.
Groh was instrumental in the development of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, working closely with him during his three years in Chicago, and he also worked closely with Brandon Marshall during the receiver's last two seasons with the Bears.
Groh is just the latest coach to leave the Bears' staff this season, as Derius Swinton joined Chip Kelly's staff in San Francisco and Adam Gase became the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
