The Chicago Bears are busy reconfiguring their coaching staff after several departures over the past few weeks, and on Tuesday they made a hire as they have brought in Richard Hightower as a special teams assistant coach.
Hightower, who previously worked for the San Francisco 49’ers, will replace Derius Swinton on John Fox’s staff after Swinton left to join Chip Kelly’s staff in San Francisco.
Hightower’s coaching career has taken him through several cities, including San Francisco, where he worked for the 2015 season. He also served as an offensive quality control coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2014, and he was an assistant special teams coach for Washington from 2010-13.
With Hightower’s hire, there is still one vacancy left on staff, as the Bears are still looking for a new wide receivers coach after Mike Groh left the organization on Monday. They’ve already had to hire a quarterbacks coach, bringing in Dave Ragone after promoting Dowell Loggains to offensive coordinator earlier this offseason.
