Bears Claim Connor Shaw Off Waivers From Browns

The Chicago Bears know who their starting quarterback will be when training camp opens later this month, but they’ve added another competitor to the mix for the back-up job, as the team claimed Connor Shaw off of waivers.

Shaw, a University of South Carolina product who has been a member of the Cleveland Browns during his NFL career, has only appeared in one NFL game, but he was the subject of multiple waiver claims after the Browns set him free, and the Bears beat out the New Orleans Saints for his services.

Shaw had a stalwart college career with the Gamecocks, completing 65.5 percent of his passes for 6074 yards and 56 touchdowns in his time at the school. His senior season was especially good, as he threw 24 touchdowns and just one interception during the 2013 campaign.

The Bears currently have five quarterbacks on their 90-man roster, with Cutler and Hoyer likely the leaders to be on the final 53-man roster later this summer. Undrafted free agent Dalyn Williams is also on the roster, as is David Fales, who was the Bears’ back-up late in the 2015 season.
