Bears Add Three on Last Day of Draft

The Bears added three more players on day three of the 2012 NFL Draft. Chicago had picks in the fourth, sixth and seventh round, having traded their fifth round pick to move up on Friday night and pick up Alshon Jeffrey.

Fourth round, Evan Rodriguez, TE, Temple: Wanting to give Jay Cutler as many weapons as possible, the Bears picked up Rodriguez, who played fullback but will be a tight end in Chicago. The Bears hope to use him as a hybrid who could line up in the backfield or as a tight end. Like the other Bears draft picks, he has special teams experience. Rodriguez has had off-the-field incidents, including disturbance and trespassing charges at West Virginia before transferring to Temple, then a reported arrest for disorderly conduct in 2009 and a one-game suspension for breaking a team rule in 2010. However, Phil Emery is confident Rodriguez has matured.

"He hasn’t had an incident since the 2010 season. Maturity, and I think he got high-quality level coaching [at Temple]. Those are good coaches, winning coaches that have helped provide maturity and growth as a man,” Emery said.

Sixth round, Isaiah Frey, CB, Nevada-Reno: After Zack Bowman and Corey Graham left Chicago, the Bears were sadly thin at cornerback. Now, they have a plethora. Frey is a durable corner who led Nevada with five interceptions and 21 passes broken up his senior year. He can run a 4.4 40, giving the Bears an injection of speed.

Seventh round, Greg McCoy, CB, Texas Christian: No, really. A PLETHORA of cornerbacks. A veritable cornucopia. Though McCoy spent most of his time at corner, he is also one of the best kick returners in the draft, getting All-American honors at that position from Yahoo! Sports and CBS Sports.
