Accused Rapist Drives Victim to Hospital

Michael Jett was free on bond in connection with a domestic abuse case when sexual assault occurred

A Batavia man was being held Wednesday on a $3 million bail after being accused of raping a woman and driving her to the hospital.

Michael L. Jett is charged with eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and six counts of criminal sexual assault by force. He's accused of raping a 48-year-old woman and violating her with a "foreign object," the Daily Herald reported, citing court records.

The assault on the Batavia woman happened sometime between May 29 and June 1 in the 200 block of South River Drive in the far west suburb, police said.

The woman was being treated at Provena Mercy Hospital last Friday when staff from the hospital informed police of the assault.

Detectives later executed a search warrant at Jett’s South River Street home. Jett was arrested "without incident," police said.

"It’s a very serious case," said Batavia Police Detective Kevin Bretz. "We just want to make sure we conduct a very thorough investigation and we’ll let the courts take it from there."

Jett was free on bond in connection with a domestic abuse case last September.

If convicted in the current case, Jett faces up to 30 years in prison.
