Hours-Long Barricade Situation Resolved Without Incident on Chicago's Northwest Side

A barricade situation lasted for several hours early Sunday on Chicago's Northwest Side, prompting a SWAT response before being resolved without incident, according to police.

Around 12:55 a.m., police responded to a home in the 5500 block of West Byron Street in the city's Portage Park neighborhood, authorities said.

A male suspect had barricaded himself inside the home, according to police, and was believed to be alone. The stand-off ended around 7:15 a.m. when the man came outside peacefully and was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.

No injuries were reported, according to police, and no charges were expected to be filed.
