A barricade situation ended in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood Wednesday as a suspect was taken into custody, authorities said.
Video showed officers placing a man in handcuffs into a squad car moments after a woman and baby were seen being escorted by police and SWAT near East 71st Street and South Rhodes Avenue.
At around 8:30 a.m., officers were called to a domestic-related battery situation in the 7100 block of South Rhodes Avenue. The ongoing incident became a barricade situation when the suspect took a woman hostage, according to a Chicago police spokesman. It was not immediately clear if the suspect was armed.
Police said the woman and infant were "safely removed from the residence." Both were treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital "as a precaution," authorities said. Shortly after, the suspect surrendered and was placed into custody, police said.
"It was a great example of officers working together," said Officer Michael Carroll with the Chicago Police Department. "Great job by the SWAT team and the officers on scene to have this come to a safe conclusion."

A heavy police presence, including a SWAT team, remained at the scene as an investigation was ongoing later Wedenesday morning.
The incident prompted nearby Park Manor Elementary School to be placed on a hard lockdown, school officials said. Allison's Infant and Toddler Center was also notified by police not to let anyone leave the facility, the center said.
CTA buses were being rerouted near the incident and surrounding streets were closed, witnesses near the scene said.
