Man Found Dead After Barricade Situation in Suburban Oak Lawn

Close to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, officials tweeted that the case has been concluded and that "there are no safety concerns for the public"

Oak Lawn authorities say that a man has been found dead after a barricade situation on Saturday morning.

Police say that they responded to a well-being check at a residence in the 10400 block of South Mason Avenue at approximately 8:22 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers were told by family members that a person inside the home had "made statements that led them to believe the subject may harm himself or others."

Officers and a witness knocked on the door to try to speak to the man, but heard a gunshot from inside the residence.

After that incident, officers evacuated the scene and secured the scene. The South Suburban Emergency Response Team was called in to try to make contact with the man, but was unsuccessful.

Later, the SSERT deployed a drone, which showed images of the man inside the home, but he was not moving. Entry was made into the home and police discovered the man had died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death, and residents are being told the area is secured and that the situation has concluded.
