Baby Falls Between CTA Train and Platform: Officials

A 2-month-old baby fell from her stroller between a CTA train and the platform Thursday morning on the city’s West Side, police said.

The baby girl fell about 8:45 a.m. at the Illinois Medical District stop, police said. The train remained standing, the girl was brought back onto the platform and no injuries were reported, police said.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted the child "will be OK," and that police were treating the fall as an accident.

The girl was taken to Cook County Hospital as a precaution, police said.

A CTA spokeswoman said similar incidents are very rare. The transit agency declined to offer further details on the accident.

The agency was investigating the incident, she said.

Trains were operating normally after a minor delay.

In 2009 a Red Line train at the Morse stop in Rogers Park left the platform while dragging a nearly 2-year-old child in a small stroller caught in its doors.

The girl was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and later released.
