Police warned Chicago's northwest suburban residents of a robber that they say targeted a victim by posing as a police officer.
A woman was driving alone last Thursday near a busy stretch on Schaumburg Road and Route 59 in Streamwood when she was stopped by what she thought was a police officer, according to authorities.
The man was driving an unmarked dark colored Ford with red and blue flashing lights activated on his dash board, the woman told police. She says the man was dressed in a navy blue uniform and identified himself as a Streamwood officer before asking her to get out of her vehicle.
When the woman obeyed the man's orders he grabbed her purse and took off with cash, according to police.
As of Tuesday evening there haven't been any similar incidents reported, but Streamwood Police say drivers should be vigilant if they are stopped by someone and it doesn't feel right.
Authorities have not revealed if the imposter was armed with a weapon, but police say they are working on a sketch of the suspect they believe they are looking for.
