‘If I'm Not Around to See The Vote Results': Political Blogger Found Dead After Post About Ind. Primary, Police Investigate as Suicide

Gary Welsh's final blog post has taken on a very different tone after the prominent political blogger was found dead Sunday

Gary Welsh wrote in his final blog post before he was reportedly found dead, “If I’m not around to see the vote results, my prediction is that Trump wins Indiana.”

Indianapolis police are now investigating the death of the prominent political blogger as a suicide, the Indy Star reports.

Welsh wrote for the Advance Indiana blog, his final post now taking a very different tone.

“If I'm not around to see the vote results, my prediction is that Trump wins Indiana with just shy of 50% of the vote, but he will carry every single congressional district and sweep the delegate race--assuming the party-chosen delegates honor their rules-bound commitment to support the winner on the first ballot,” the post read Friday.

Police were called to an apartment building in the 400 block of North Park Avenue just before 8 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person shot, according to a police report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Officers found the person shot and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was identified as 53-year-old Welsh, the report states.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department tweeted Sunday that “the shooting downtown is being investigated as a suicide.”

“There are many resources available to those suffering in silence,” the tweet read.

Welsh was a practicing lawyer in Indianapolis who graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1984 and later attending Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, according to his bio on his website. He authored the popular blog as “a favorite pastime,” the website states.

The Indy Star reported an autopsy on Welsh’s body was expected to be performed Monday in Marion County, where the official cause of death would be determined. The Marion County Coroner’s office could not be reached for comment.
