Authorities Identify Toddler Fatally Injured at Store Inside Orland Square Mall

Authorities have identified a 2-year-old girl who was fatally injured at a store inside the Orland Square Mall on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the toddler as Alexandra Martinez, of the 14400 block of Bell Avenue in south suburban Harvey.

The Orland Park Police Department said officers responded to a call at around 1:52 p.m. of a toddler who was injured inside the AKIRA store at the mall, located at 104 Orland Square Drive.

Police said the girl was with her aunt when she was struck in the head by a fixture inside the clothing store.

Authorities said officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and performed medical treatment on the child, who was then taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died.

"We are devastated by this tragic event," AKIRA co-owner Eric Hsueh said in a statement. "We are working to collect all the information."

Further details were not immediately available and the incident remained under investigation Wednesday morning.
