Three armed men ransacked a home in west suburban Aurora Sunday night after forcing their way inside and tying up the homeowners.
Rebecca Hoff said the nightmare began at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when someone knocked on the door of her home in the 1100 block of Foran Lane. The young man at the door said he was looking for a lost pit bull.
"All of a sudden there were two men with the young boy and they had masks on," Hoff recalled Friday.
The trio forced their way into the home, bound Hoff and her husband, David, and made them lie on the floor. Two of them had guns, Hoff said.
"I was thinking that they were going to shoot me first and then David," she said. "We were holding hands and we're praying."
The men disabled the home's security system and then went room to room, dumping out drawer after drawer before making off with jewelry, family mementos, the TV, cell phones, credit cards and checkbooks, police said.
Hoff and her husband freed themselves and called police after the robbers left.
"It's a time where people pray on other peoples' emotions and their goodwill for the season," said Aurora police Lt. Pete Inda.
