At least eight people were injured in a fire that broke out in Glendale Heights Saturday night.

The Glendale Heights Police Department said officers responded to an incident at the 1800 block of Marci Ct. around 10:16 p.m. Saturday.

Several people received burns and were shortly transported to nearby hospitals, authorities said.

Although the cause of the incident is unknown at the time, authorities said they believe the explosion was a result of a flammable material that was poured onto a small fire in a fire pit in the backyard of a residence.

The fire seemed to have taken place when several people were nearby, police said.

The incident was under investigation as of Sunday morning.

Glendale Heights Police urge anyone with information to call the department at 630-260-6070.
