Former Pastor Charged With Sexual Assault

Darin L. Evans, 41, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor

Bond was set at $300,000 Tuesday for a former associate pastor at a west suburban Elmhurst church charged with criminal sexual assault.

Darin L. Evans, 41, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor girl he met through a church-sponsored youth group, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office.

Authorities allege Evans assaulted the girl on multiple occasions in his vehicle, in public places and on a church-sponsored youth retreat from 2004 until 2011, the state’s attorney’s office said.

The girl came forward in February and Elmhurst police began an investigation.

Evans, of Dover, Ohio, surrendered to police Monday and was charged with 11 counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to Elmhurst police.

"The allegations against Mr. Evans are just despisable," DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a release. "As the youth minister at his victim’s church, he allegedly took advantage of his position and the trust placed in him by his young victim and her family to satisfy his sick sexual desires. I would like to thank the Elmhurst Police Department, particularly Detective Paul Carney, for their exceptional work on this very disturbing case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Ann Celine O’Hallaren for her work on this case and her continued efforts in seeking justice for the victims of sex assaults."

Evans is next scheduled to appear in court April 2.
