"Bundle up" is an understatement in Chicago for the next few days.
The area could see the coldest night of the season Thursday night into Friday with bitter-cold conditions and wind chills forcing temperatures down to 20 degrees below zero. Low temperatures will range between zero well inland and single digits in the city.
The record low for Feb. 1 is 3 degrees, set in 1895.
Friday highs will only reach 10 to 15 degrees as wind chill values again push lows well below zero. Some light snow is possible in the late evening as temperatures slowly start to rise.
Saturday temps reach into the mid-20s and light snow again develops at night with more of the same expected Sunday. Seasonable low 30s are expected Monday and Tuesday, perhaps officially ending the area's recent weather roller coaster that took Chicago from bitter cold, to record warm and snowy.
It's hard to believe that just days ago some Chicagoans wore shorts on Tuesday as the area's 63 degrees nearly reached all-time record highs.
Then the area saw less than a half-inch of snow Wednesday, finally putting the city above the 3-inch mark for total snowfall this winter.
