If you’ve missed out on the Occupy Chicago rallies so far, your chance to march against the banks will come Monday, at the Take Back Chicago! March, when as many as 7,500 protestors are expected to demonstrate outside the Mortgage Bankers Association’s 98th Annual Convention & Expo, at the Hyatt Regency.
The Expo will be a big event, with sessions keynoted by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, political whiz David Axelrod and humorist Dave Barry. The band Chicago will perform for the conventioneers on Tuesday.
The demonstrators will ask Congress to raise taxes on the financial services industry.
“We must target additional revenue for investment in public services and critical infrastructure that will create jobs and stimulate private investment in job creation,” said Curtis Smith, President of Lakeview Action Coalition. “Serious living wage job creation is the fastest way to fix the economy - America is not broke, but our economy is broken.”

Hyatt Regency (Wacker & Stetson) National Peoples Action—Pay Us Back - Outside of the Mortgage Banker’s Association 98th Annual Convention and Expo. Testimonies from people who are unemployed and have lost their homes. Visuals: A fleet of 40 activists dressed as Robin Hoods will kayak the Chicago River and convene on Stetson and Wacker, Marching Band, Puppets and signs.
