Anthony Rizzo Hosts Annual Charity Walk

It may be the offseason, but that doesn’t mean that Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is kicking back and relaxing.

Over the weekend, Rizzo hosted his foundation’s “Walk-Off for Cancer 5k” in Florida. According to a press release from the foundation, more than 1000 people participated in the walk and raised a record-breaking $960,000 for families fighting cancer:

Rizzo, who has made massive donations to numerous institutions, including Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, donated the net proceeds of the event to the Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital.

Two of Rizzo’s Cubs teammates were present at the event, as Rene Rivera and Jon Jay both made their way south for the big event.

The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation hosted the event as part of its annual slate of fundraisers. The foundation has donated millions of dollars to various causes, with the expressed purpose of helping families not only fight cancer, but also to cover bills and expenses that come up during the course of cancer treatment.
