Customers Say Dominick's Sold Expired Items

Grocery chain creates special team to address the issue

Dominick's is doing damage control after customers flooded Facebook with complaints the store sells expired food.

Numerous customers posted comments saying they recently bought food from the supermarket that was past the "best if used by", "sell buy" or "use by" dates.

Prominent Chicago coupon blogger Jill Cataldo says she found 761 expired items at Dominick's in just two trips to the store.

Dominick's issued a statement to the Chicago Tribune saying it's unhappy about the findings, and it has assembled a high-level and high-priority team to address the issue.

With the exception of baby formula, sale of expired foods or medicines aren't prohibited by the Food and Drug Administration or policed by the U.S. or state governments.
