The last Friday before the regular season is usually the day when teams cut players. While the Bears are doing plenty of trimming today, they also reportedly brought back a former Bear for the defensive line.
The Sun-Times is reporting Amobi Okoye was released by Tampa Bay and is finalizing a deal to come back to Chicago.
Okoye was signed in 2011 to give the defensive line a deeper bench, and was a pleasant surprise. He had four sacks and 27 tackles as a defensive tackle on a line that was hit with injuries.
He hasn't played for the Bucs at all in the preseason because he is recovering from knee surgery. The expectation is he will help a line that is still dealing with injuries. Stephen Paea is rehabbing an ankle injury
Teammate Henry Melton was excited to hear the news, tweeting, "My dude @AO_FASHO is back!!!"
