Amazon to Open Downtown Office

The Amazon office would be the first Chicago office for the e-commerce company

The online-retail giant Amazon has plans to move to downtown Chicago.

Amazon is in advanced negotiations to lease office space in the taller tower of the Franklin on 227 W. Monroe St., according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

The Seattle-based company has not released details about how many employees it will hire, or what workers will do. Crain’s reports the Amazon office would be the first Chicago office for the e-commerce company.

Amazon has spent the last year ramping up its presence in Chicago.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced plans to open a warehouse in southwest suburban Joliet which will create 1,000 full-times jobs. Employees will process items including books and electronics.

Amazon also opened its first Chicago warehouse on Goose Island in July. A second distribution center will open at 2801 S. Western Ave. as an effort to streamline one-hour delivery, according to Crain’s.
