Amazon Hiring More Than 6,000 Employees in the Chicago Area

The positions available are both seasonal and full-time, the company said

Amazon is looking to hire more than 6,000 seasonal and full-time employees in the Chicago area, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

As part of that hiring effort, the online retail giant hosted a job fair Tuesday in north suburban Mundelein.

Lake County residents trickled into a conference room throughout the day to apply for a job at the company.

Earlier this month, Amazon boosted its minimum wage for all U.S. workers to $15 per hour and said it would push for an increase in the federal minimum wage, whihc is currently $7.25 per hour.

At the hiring event in the northern suburbs, job-seeker Anthony Colletti said he's been looking for an office job for six months after his position at a medical supply company in Carol Stream was shipped out of state.

"It’s hard when you’re older," Colletti said. "I hate to say that, but when you’re a little bit older it’s more involved. I keep looking, so hopefully something will kick in soon."

Amazon hired an outside contractor to conduct interviews at Tuesday's event, which was at the Double Tree, located at 510 East IL-83, until 3 p.m.
