A four-foot alligator was pulled from Lake Michigan Monday after video was shown to authorities of the reptile slowly swimming in the waters near Waukegan, officials said.

“It is not every day someone reports an alligator in Lake Michigan and the report is true,” the city of Waukegan said in a Facebook post paired with a photo of the gator, its mouth secured shut with a blue band.

Few details were released by officials, but Waukegan’s Facebook post thanked the person who brought the alligator to their attention, as well as the Waukegan Police Animal Control staffer who yanked it from the lake.

The alligator will be taken to the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest, officials said.
