Alligator Found During Resident's Eviction

Authorities evicting a tenant from an apartment in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood on Wednesday morning said they also found an alligator living in the home.

The 13-inch long alligator was found in a tank in the dining room of the apartment in the 8200 block of South Vernon Avenue, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The resident being evicted was home at the time but was not cited or charged, officials said.

The animal was turned over to Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Alligators are considered "dangerous animals" and are illegal to own in Illinois.
