Alderman, Residents Concerned Over Spike in Lakeview Burglaries

Within the boundaries of the 44th Ward, there have been at least 10 burglaries since March 4, according to Chicago Police data.

That number is spike from recent years and has residents and the alderman concerned.
“The numbers are up,” said Ald. Tom Tunney. “We’re concerned.”

The corner of Clark and Aldine was just one area hit hard by the break-ins. In one square block, police say three of the 10 burglaries took place.

The burglaries have happened from near the lake to Racine, but authorities said they don’t believe they are connected.

“We're hearing from our residents that it just doesn't feel safe or I don't see as many squad cars around,” Tunney said. “That's what we're hearing.”

Tunney said he's working closely with residents on combating the crime and has support from the mayor's office and the interim police superintendent.

“If you're going to do bad things in the 19th district or the 44th Ward, we're going to respond,” he said.
