Former Middle School Tutor Charged With Child Porn Possession

Albert Galus has been under investigation since he took his computer in for repair three years ago, officials said

A northwest suburban man who used to tutor middle school students has been charged with having hundreds of pornographic images and videos of children on his computer.

Authorities began investigating 47-year-old Albert Galus in December 2011 after he took his computer in for repair and a technician found a video of child pornography on the machine, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

The technician contacted the FBI and investigators later found more than 1,000 illegal images and videos on Galus’ computer, police said.

Galus, a former tutor for middle school and high school students, was arrested at his Park Ridge home on Tuesday. He was charged with 25 counts child pornography possession, including 16 charges elevated to aggravated possession because the images depicted children under 13 years old, police said.

On Wednesday Galus appeared in court in Skokie, where a judge set bail at $100,000, according to jail records. If he posts bond, he would be released on electronic monitoring.

Galus' next court appearance was scheduled for Dec. 31.
