General admission prices are going up for this year's Illinois State Fair.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture released gate admission and parking fees on Tuesday. The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that the new $10 admission is $3 higher for the 2016 fair. It's effective on all but on the fair's opening and closing days and applies to those ages 13 to 59.
The department said the increase is "an effort to be fiscally responsible" and that prices for the fair haven't been evaluated since 2012. The department says the pricing puts Illinois in line with surrounding states, which charge at least $10.
The fair runs from Aug. 11 to Aug. 21. Adult general admission prices will be $5 those days. Discounts will continue for seniors and veterans.
Fair officials announced earlier this month they added legendary rock band Kiss to this year's lineup, joining country music singer Dierks Bentley and rock band ZZ Top among the headlining acts.
State Fair Manager Kevin Gordon said Kiss -- which is currently comprised of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer -- will perform on the Grandstand stage on Aug. 17.
