This is What Happened to Addison Russell's Grand Slam Ball

It landed it the hands of a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan

Chicago Cubs fans will remember that moment forever. The moment that left them in awe, speechless and ecstatic: Addison Russell’s grand slam that blew Game 6 of the World Series wide open.

And that ball? It landed it the hands of a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.

“My dad and grandpa are both passed away Cubs fans, and it just means more to me than I could ever imagine,” said Joe Wright, a Chicago realtor and father of two young boys.

Wright was sitting in the front row down the right field line Tuesday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Wright said when Russell hit the bomb, a Cleveland fan actually caught the ball.

“The fan who caught it threw it back on the field, and they tossed it to the ball boy who was sitting right in front of us,” Wright said. “I had told the ball boy about my boys, and he gave it to me when he came back over. One of the best moments of my life!”

The hit meant a lot to Russell too.

With the grand slam, he became the first player to hit one in a World Series game in over a decade. Chicago baseball fans will certainly remember the last player to achieve the feat, as it was Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, who hit a grand slam during Game 2 of the 2005 Fall Classic.

At just 22 years old, he's now the youngest player to hit a grand slam in a World Series game since Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle accomplished the feat in 1953.
