Mint Gives Lincoln a Penny for His Birthday

Former president's 200th birthday was in April

What do you get someone for their 200th birthday?

If you're Abraham Lincoln, how about a brand new penny? His birthday was actually in February, but the U.S. Mint unveiled a new coin with the former president's likeness during a ceremony in Springfield on Thursday.

On the front is the classic Lincoln image that's been on pennies for years. On the back, Lincoln is shown delivering a speech at the Old State Capitol in Illinois.

Joel Iskowitz designed the penny. He calls it the biggest honor of his career and says it's a little daunting to think that so many people will see it.

This is the third of four new pennies marking the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth.

The earlier pennies showed the log cabin where Lincoln was born and a scene of Lincoln reading as he took a break from splitting rails.

The fourth penny will celebrate Lincoln's time as president.
