Abera Kuma of Ethiopia won the Rotterdam Marathon in the Netherlands in April, pulling away from the competition in the last seven kilometers of the race.
Kuma holds a personal record of 2:05:56 which he set in Berlin on Sept. 28, 2014. He also has a well-known running partner.
"I've heard about Chicago from my training partner
,” Kuma said. “And I believe I will run well." Though Kuma was unable to beat his personal best in Rotterdam earlier in the year, the Chicago Marathon offers him another opportunity.
