Four Chicago restaurants made the Five-Diamond cut on AAA’s annual diamond-rated restaurant list, which was released Feb. 21.
Acadia, Alinea, Everest and Sixteen again attained the most prestigious rating offered by AAA. The Five Diamond Award is held by just 68—or 0.2 percent of—restaurants out of the more than 31,000 AAA has rated, according to a AAA press release.
Acadia, 1639 S. Wabash Ave., and Alinea, 1723 N. Halsted St., are upscale New American restaurants that were added to the list in 2013 and 2006 respectively and have maintained their spots.
Everest, a French restaurant on the 40th floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange, 440 S. LaSalle St., was added in 1996 and retains its spot, while Sixteen, on the 16th floor of Trump International Hotel & Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave., has held its spot since 2013.
“Five Diamond restaurants have evolved over the years to meet the changing expectations of restaurant enthusiasts who are increasingly sophisticated about cuisine,” Michael Petrone, director of AAA Inspections & Diamond Ratings, said in a statement.
AAA added eight new restaurants to its Five Diamond list this year, but none from Chicago.
The city is also home to 14 Four Diamond restaurants, which is a slightly less exclusive list that holds 665 eateries, or 2.1 percent of the AAA-inspected establishments, according to AAA. Out of the 52 restaurants added to the 2018 Four Diamond Award list, none was from Chicago.
