Contractor Dies After Falling from Terminal at O'Hare

An electrician at O’Hare International Airport was killed Thursday when he fell 35 feet from a terminal, officials said.

The contractor was working on the exterior of O’Hare Terminal 5 at around 9:35 a.m. when he fell to the lower level, according to airport spokesman Greg Cunningham.

The victim was identified as 59-year-old Gary Beno of New Lenox.

Beno fell 35 feet, but it was unclear what he fell off of and what caused the fall, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The man was transported in critical condition to Lutheran General Hospital and was later pronounced dead, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

Fellow contractors estimate Beno had worked at O'Hare for nearly 12 years.

It's the second time this week emergency responders have been called to O'Hare. On Tuesday, a woman leaving the lower level of Terminal 1 was struck by hotel shuttle bus, pinned underneath and dragged several feet.
