Women Charged with Trafficking Teen Girl

Two Wisconsin women were charged with human trafficking Saturday after they allegedly used a website to promote an “escort” service involving a juvenile girl, police said.

Elizabeth Roeder, 33, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Shannon Hathaway, 41, of Stoughton, Wis., were each charged with involuntary servitude of a minor and trafficking for labor/benefits, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

Bond was set Saturday at $175,000 for Hathaway and $150,000 for Roeder.

On April 10, undercover officers with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Vice Unit responded to an ad on Backpage.com, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

The officer was told to go to a Super 8 Motel in River Grove and was offered sex in exchange for money.

The women were then arrested and an investigation revealed Roeder and Hathaway were promoting prostitution of a 17-year-old girl, police said.

The teen was reunited with her family Saturday, police said.
