Woman Shot in Home Invasion on Chicago's Southwest Side

A woman was seriously injured in a shooting during a break-in in Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood on Thursday, police said.

Three men forcibly entered the basement of a home in the 5900 block of South Kenneth Avenue by kicking in a door at around 4 p.m..

A 26-year-old woman was shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, authorities said. 

Police described the offenders as three black males between the ages of 25 and 30. One of the men was wearing a blue postal uniform, authorities confirmed. 

A shot was fired as the three men attempted to enter the home, and when they realized that the woman had been hit, they fled the scene, police said. 

It was not clear if anything was taken from the home during the break-in.

No one is in custody and police continue to investigate.
