Pedestrian Struck In Taxi Crash Near DePaul

Cab slammed into a liquor store as the woman was walking by

A woman was in serious condition after being struck by a taxi cab early Friday near DePaul University in Lincoln Park.

Police said the 20-year-old woman was walking in front of a liquor store on the 2400 block of North Ashland near Fullerton when a yellow cab was struck by a white taxi, sending the first vehicle into the storefront and striking the woman in its path.

Witnesses told police the white cab blew a red light then t-boned the other cab.

The woman and cab went flying into the store, police said. She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. One of the taxi drivers and a passenger also were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.

The owner of the store said the damage is significant and he doesn't know when he can reopen. "Not today, because it's boarded up now and we don't have an entry door to let people inside," Bob Patel said.

Patel said he estimates the damage is at least a couple thousand dollars.

Police said tickets in the incident are still pending.
