Woman to Would-Be Burglars: “My Dogs Bite”

An Oak Lawn woman stopped would-be burglars from entering her home on Oct. 3 when she told them her dogs bite and she would call the police.

The 73-year-old woman told police a man knocked on the door of her home in the 8700 block of 49th Court at 2:37 p.m. The man, who had a shaved head and spoke broken English, asked her to come outside and help him, police said.

He led the woman away from her home and toward the garage. He asked her if she spoke Spanish and if anyone else was home, police said.

The woman told police she suddenly recalled a neighbor who was the victim of a ruse burglary that involved the perpetrators leading her away from the house.

She saw another man standing outside the side door. When she told him about her dogs and threatened to call the cops, both men left in a white van, police said.
