Halloween Party Turns Deadly

24-year-old shot in chest

One woman is dead and another was wounded when a man asked to leave an Austin neighborhood party fired shots through the door as he left early Sunday on the West Side.

The shooting happened about 1:05 a.m. in the 5300 block of West Division Street, according to police.

The woman, identified as Jenifer Clark, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest while at a party, police said. The medical examiner's office said the shooting occurred at 5360 W. Division St. No other details on the circumstances of the shooting were immediately known.

Clark was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m., the medical examiner's office said. No one was in custody early Sunday.

The shooting happened about 1:05 a.m. when a man was asked to leave for “rude behavior.” Once outside, the man fired shots through the door, striking Clark and a 16-year-old girl, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

The girl was taken in serious condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with a gunshot wound to the bottom of the left foot, police said.

The party took place at an establishment, and the owner was on the scene when the shooting happened, authorities said.
