Lawsuit Cash Flashed on Social Media Sparked Fatal Shooting: Report

A suspect is in custody after a woman was fatally shot during a Zion home authorities say was sparked by a social media post showing off the award from a personal injury lawsuit on social media last February, the Lake County News-Sun reports.

Zavian D. Wells, 25, of Round Lake Beach, was charged with murder after he was arrested last month in connection to the Feb. 16 home invasion that left three people shot—including Kaleah Beville, who died later that day at the hospital.

Wells was part of a duo alleged to have entered Beville’s home in the 2800 block of Edina Boulevard after they saw the social media post flaunting money a male resident had recently been awarded in court, the paper reports, citing prosecutors and court records.

The gunmen entered the apartment with brandishing semi-automatic pistols and fired multiple rounds and injured three occupants, the News-Sun reports. The two then reportedly fled in a white Chevrolet Impala.

Beville died at the hospital alter that day from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the News-Sun, detectives were able to use surveillance video to identify the white Impala’s license plate number. Authorities then took Wells into custody at the address the vehicle was registered to in Round Lake Beach.

Wells has a criminal record dating back to 2010, the newspaper reported.
