Woman Pistol Whipped, Mugged in LP

Police have no reason to connect it with the spate of recent muggings

This time they used a gun.

Yet another robbery was reported in Lincoln Park this morning, though police said they had no reason to connect it with the spate of recent muggings that have put this typically peaceful neighborhood on edge, says the Trib.

There have been at least 12 reported muggings and assaults in the LP and Lakeview neighborhoods over the last few weeks.

This map, which will be updated as new muggings occur, displays the approximate locations of the attacks.

What happened this time: two marauders approached a 20-year-old woman just after midnight in the 800 block of West Webster Avenue. One of those jackals hit the woman in the face with a handgun and snatched her purse.

According to police, this mugging doesn't match earlier patterns.

The perps' M.O. in those cases including swift and violent attacks from behind during early-morning hours. Several people were involved.

The woman mugged this morning was not seriously hurt and declined medical treatment, said police. The purse was recovered in an alley about two blocks away, but the missing contents were not immediately determined.

The mugging occurred about two blocks west of Oz Park, near Halsted.

Police are working with only a vague description of the woman's attackers.
