Woman Killed In Fall From SUV On Bishop Ford

SUV fled the scene and collided with another vehicle, police said

A woman fell from an SUV onto the Bishop Ford Freeway early Tuesday and was struck and killed by another car, state police said.

The white SUV was traveling south on I-94 just before 1 a.m. when a witness in another vehicle saw the woman fall out and onto the road at 154th Street in Dolton. The woman, identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as 27-year-old Jennifer Mitchell of the 9200 block of South Paxton Avenue, was struck by another car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver who hit Mitchell stopped, police said, but the driver of the SUV kept going.

Police tracked down the SUV in the northbound lanes of I-294 and tried to pull it over, but police said the driver didn't stop. When the driver attempted to exit at the ramp to West 127th Street, he crashed into another vehicle.

People involved in that crash had non-life threatening injuries, police said. The SUV's driver, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Police said he will be questioned. No charges have yet been filed.

Portions of the Bishop Ford and the Tri-State Tollway at 127th were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
