Woman Charged in Crash that Killed Baby

State Police say Joannie Pittman was drinking before the crash that killed a baby and injured three children and four adults

A Chicago woman faces criminal charges for a Memorial Day crash on the Dan Ryan. A baby died, and three more children and four adults also were hurt in the crash.

State Police say Joannie Pittman, 47, of Chicago was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI. Both charges are felonies.

The car she was driving struck a guardrail and rolled over, ejecting the four children who were not in safety seats or wearing seatbelts.

The crash happened on the outbound Dan Ryan near 75th Street around 6:45 p.m. Monday and shut down all outbound lanes of the expressway. At some point during the accident, Pittman also struck another car. Nobody in that vehicle was hurt.

Eleven-month-old Everett Branlett was taken to Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He would have turned a year old on June 6.
